The O’Leary family of Curriheverin played a distinguished part in the life of the parish of Barryroe at least since the 1850s and are inextricably linked with the Coughlan family, who originated in the parish and whose contribution to Irish-American legal and political life is the subject of a separate entry on this website.
Daniel O’Leary is listed in Griffith’s Valuation (1852) as leasing circa eighty-two acres at Curriheverin West from the Ladies Boyle.
In 1883, on the death of Daniel, the land was transferred to his son Cornelius O’Leary, except for circa six acres that was transferred to Rev. John O’Leary, presumably another son.
Cornelius O’Leary (1841-1910) married Catherine O’Sullivan (1842-1911) of Kilbrittain in 1868 and they had a large family.
Daniel O’Leary (1870) married Anne Wilson in Clonakilty Church in 1914.
Johanna O’Leary (1871-1911) married Daniel F. Cohalan of New York at St.Peter & Paul’s Church in Cork in 1899. The couple had seven children, Aileen (1900-2000); Conn (1902-1950); Kathleen (1903-1979); Patrick J. (1907-1978); Twins Florence Daniel (1908-2001) and Dermot (1908-1915). Hannah died in childbirth on the birth of Gerald (1911) and baby Gerald also died.

Jeremiah O’Leary (1877-1907)
John O’Leary (1878-1915) Medical doctor and Major in the Indian Medical Service. He was drowned in the Suez Canal during World War One. He is buried in Ismalia War Memorial Cemetery in Egypt and commemorated on the World War One memorial in Lislevane Cemetery.
Patrick O’Leary (1881-1979) He became a Catholic priest in the Diocese of New York. He had a long and distinguished service in the diocese and held the title of Monsignor at the time of his death.

Michael Joseph O’Leary (1880) He was an agricultural instructor and married Mary Dunworth from Newcastlewest, Co. Limerick in 1926 and they had one son, Cornelius O’Leary(1927-2006) who became Professor of History in Queen’s College, Belfast and was a regular contributor to debates on television and other media.
Margaret O’Leary (1885-) Married Daniel F. Coughlan, widower of her older sister Johanna, in 1915. The couple had one child, Joan, who died at the age of seven.
